In the summer of 1994, Kim Gordon of SONIC YOUTH launched it together with Daisy Von Fohr, who was both a friend and a shop staff member of "XLARGE".
In 1991, Mike D of the BEASTIE BOYS, who was involved with XLARGE, reached out to Kim, with whom he had previously had interactions.
