Comment: M size fits just right with socks on. Since I have a wider foot and a high instep, it fits snugly without gaps with not-too-thick socks. Thick socks seem too tight. L size feels more comfortable overall, but as it gets worn in, it might slip forward, so I prefer to wear the M size, which fits more snugly from the start.
