Helly J. Hansen, who was the captain of the Norwegian merchant fleet.
He retired as a sailor at the age of 37 and established the "Oilskin Cross & Canvas Factory" in the port town of Moss, facing the fjord.
It was the year 1877.
This small factory, which started manufacturing oilskin for professionals, is the origin of the wear brand Helly Hansen, which is now trusted by sailors all over the world.
The first product is a fire bucket made of sail canvas soaked in flaxseed oil.
And the following year, at the Paris Expo, won the design award in the Seaman clothing division.
In 1950, we succeeded in commercializing the world's first fully waterproof clothing made with Welder sewing.
After more than 130 years, we continue to supply new waterproof apparel to the market alongside the evolution of waterproof technology.
