PANTS developed as a successor model to the M-51 FIELD TROUSERS used by the US ARMY from around 1965 to 1970. The major differences between the early and late models are the adoption of an aluminium zipper and double-stitched side seams. The outer shell uses N/C cross fabric in the early actual models. By using the button inside the waist to attach the liner, it is designed to increase insulation when used in cold regions.
