"Iron Ranger" refers to the miners who worked in the iron ore mining region called the "Iron Range" in northern Minnesota, USA, where the Red Wing company is located. They wore boots with a piece of leather added to the toe for protection, known as "cap-toe" boots, which is why these cap-toe boots were named Iron Ranger boots.

The "cap-toe" design was widely adopted in work boots in the early 20th century, and looking at the catalog of Red Wing, which was established not long before, we see that out of the 37 models of work boots listed in the 1910 catalog, 33 models feature the cap-toe design. As time passed and the steel toe, which is now the standard specification for safety shoes, became popular, the number of cap-toe boots decreased. However, some steel toe boots maintained the cap-toe design, which was originally intended for toe protection and reinforcement, until the 1990s. The Iron Ranger is a refined version of the cap-toe design that has been passed down to today.

The last (wooden mold) is the number 8 last widely used in Red Wing's round-toe boots. It features a spacious design typical of work boots, known for its comfort. The sole is equipped with the Vibram #430 mini-lug sole, which offers excellent grip.
