One of the founders of MERRELL, Clark Matis, had a strong desire to create 'the world's best hiking shoes,' and since its founding in 1981, the outdoor brand MERRELL has continued to evolve. To honor Clark Matis and to show further progress toward the future, the most innovative fast hiking shoe in Merrell history was born, incorporating the name "Matis" into the model name. With high functionality and materials packed with brand technology, this shoe achieves both 'performance' and 'style,' suitable not only for outdoor scenes but also for street use. It is a next-generation hiking shoe that offers a glimpse into the future of outdoor shoes.

The upper is based on lightweight, breathable mesh reinforced with TPU. Additionally, a TPU reinforced heel counter is placed at the heel for improved stability. The speed lacing system makes it easy to put on and take off, and to adjust the fit. The eye-catching marshmallow-like midsole features a lightweight, cushioned, and durable sustainable midsole "FLOATPRO TM" foam in a two-layer structure, with a nylon plate "FLEXPLATE TM" embedded between to suppress twisting and enhance stability and rigidity. The outsole uses "Vibram MEGAGRIP × Vibram TRACTION LUG" (lug depth 3mm), which provides top-level grip on wet surfaces and rugged trails. Sustainable materials are also incorporated to reduce environmental impact.

In the 1970s, leveraging the shoe-making techniques learned at industrial shoe manufacturing schools and across America, the company began producing hiking boots in their hometown of Burnar, Utah. By 1981, their excellent quality spread nationwide through word of mouth, and then-ski brand executives Clark Matis and John Schweitzer, who were considering establishing a new brand, invited renowned shoemaker Randy Merrell to establish Merrell Boots Company, named after the craftsman. The company's policy was to allow no compromises, and they developed items with meticulous attention to detail to achieve the functionality and comfort needed for outdoor activities. Today, the brand is loved by outdoor lovers, expanding not only into shoes but also apparel and miscellaneous goods.
