Founded in 1993 in Seattle by Mr. Barry Barr, who was born and raised in a fisherman's home on San Juan Island, Washington, 'KAVU' was established to create products that can withstand harsh environments, are durable and buoyant, protect eyes from strong sunlight, and are less likely to be blown away by strong winds while working on a boat.

Finally, in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, it was selected as an official licensed product for the U.S. Canoe & Kayak Team, elevating KAVU's status as an outdoor brand.
