Bolga village, located near the northern border of Ghana, is home to many skilled artisans and is a region rich in handcrafted work.
Due to the high number of craftsmen who could not read, this basket-making technique has been passed down through generations from hand to hand.
The artisans weave the designs they envision in their minds without hesitation.
While various baskets exist throughout Africa, the distinctive feature of Ghanaian baskets is their large, round shape.
They are crafted to maintain their form and are widely used as interior decor.
To make them more suitable for town use, we requested that the base be made oval-shaped.
Since it is easier for the people of Ghana to weave round-bottomed baskets, most baskets from this region have a round base, but we made a special request this time.
